About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide spiritual care services to hospice patients and families/caregivers directly or through coordination with other spiritual counselors
  • Assess spiritual needs of patients and families/caregivers and ensure timely services
  • Participate in comprehensive assessments and individualized plans of care
  • Provide direct spiritual care
  • Serve as liaison and support to community chaplains and spiritual counselors
  • Maintain records and documentation of spiritual care services and communications
  • Attend patient care conferences and interdisciplinary group meetings
  • Provide consultation, education, and support to the interdisciplinary group on spiritual care
  • Recruit community chaplains, spiritual counselors, and volunteers through community contacts and congregation education
  • Participate in quality assessment and performance improvement activities
  • Provide requested funeral or memorial services
  • Plan periodic memorial services
  • Assist with supervision of spiritual care volunteers when assigned
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of an accredited seminary or school of theology preferred (BD, MDiv or equivalent theological degree)
  • Experience working with death and dying, individuals/family/caregiver
  • Hospice experience preferred
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team/group
  • Comfort in an interfaith setting
  • Ability to accept different lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values
  • Ability to network with community clergy and congregations
  • Knowledge of and commitment to hospice philosophy of care
  • Ability to drive and/or have access to transportation for agency-related travel
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage
  • Must have access to an automobile
  • Must follow written and oral instructions
  • Must maintain patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm
  • Must comply with all training requirements
