About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead a high-performing Pet Care Center focused on pets, partners, customers, and business results
- Champion animal health, safety, and humane care
- Create a welcoming environment for pets and pet parents
- Build, lead, hire, train, coach, and develop an inclusive team
- Drive sales growth, profitability, and operational excellence
- Analyze financial and operational results and improve performance
- Manage labor, payroll, and expenses
- Execute merchandising, inventory, and operational processes
- Represent Petco through local events, adoption initiatives, and community partnerships
- Develop leadership bench strength and succession plans
- Lead performance management, coaching, accountability, learning, and career development
- Ensure safe opening and closing procedures and security protocols
- Maintain store appearance, cleanliness, and safety standards
- Manage loss prevention, inventory controls, administrative, payroll, and inventory tasks
- Engage customers on the sales floor and perform cashiering and point-of-sale transactions
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years of management experience (retail leadership preferred)
- Strong people leadership, coaching, and talent development skills
- Solid business, financial, and operational acumen
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- Genuine passion for pets and customer service
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to safely lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in proximity to animals, including exposure to animal dander, odors, noises, and cleaning chemicals
- Completion of Petco leadership development programs may be required for internal candidates
- Qualified applications with arrest or conviction records will be considered in accordance with applicable fair-chance laws
