About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analyze, research, develop, design, organize, implement, and conduct technical employee training programs
- Instruct technical courses in foundational and EPG-specific course pathways
- Determine training objectives and write training programs, including outlines, text, handouts, and tests
- Design technical exercises and deliver lectures covering safety, installation, programming, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of EPG machinery and associated equipment
- Administer written and practical exams and write performance reports to evaluate trainee performance
- Plan, develop, and implement comprehensive training and development strategies
- Conduct learning needs assessments and identify training opportunities
- Define minimum skill proficiencies and develop evaluation processes for technical positions
- Identify skills and competency gaps and establish progress measures
- Develop and execute strategies supporting organizational skills and competencies
- Assist with designing and implementing a companywide performance management system
- Provide consulting services for non-technical training and coordinate training activities
- Research and maintain training vendor and partner relationships
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses of outside training resources
- Design, identify, deliver, coordinate, and evaluate seminars, workshops, courses, and training
- Attain EPG Analyst and/or Marine Analyst Certification to train technicians
- Develop technical training curricula, programs, and materials
- Conduct personalized classroom technical training on electronics, hydraulics, powertrains, engines, emissions systems, and related subjects
- Coordinate computer-based, web-deliverable, and distance learning programs
- Market Peterson University training services with the Peterson Marketing Department
- Travel away from base location up to 30% of the time for classroom training, meetings, and other essential functions
- Operate a company or personal vehicle as needed
- Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited college in a closely related field
- Minimum of six years of directly related experience in the electrical power generation (EPG) industry, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Thorough knowledge of Caterpillar products
- Working knowledge of EPG equipment and commercial engines
- Strong academic background in foundational Caterpillar courses
- Ability to complete all courses required for EPG Analyst Certification within 7 years of start date
- Proven and sustained track record as a successful field EPG technician
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow
- Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels
- Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
- Creative, flexible, and innovative team player
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
- Necessary technician safety and EPG-specific training for Arc Flash (medium and high voltage)
