About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Co-develop market-level AI-native roadmaps with country presidents, cluster presidents, therapeutic area leaders and senior market stakeholders
- Own and evolve the investment thesis for International Commercial Digital & AI
- Define strategic arenas, market needs and portfolio white spaces for opportunity sourcing and capital deployment
- Convert strategy into an active opportunity agenda and commission internal or external proposals
- Own intake and triage across market-referred, internal and externally generated opportunities
- Maintain a unified portfolio backlog
- Produce investment memos covering hypotheses, expected impact, investment, accountable ownership, risks and stopping conditions
- Write recommendations, counterfactuals and open questions for Investment Committee memos
- Run Investment Committee governance, including advance memo circulation, decision logging and follow-through
- Maintain searchable institutional memory of decisions and declines
- Identify cross-market and cross-functional patterns and convert them into strategic or portfolio changes
- Lead end-to-end programme and project management for strategy development and the investment process
- Plan market-roadmap and gate cycles, manage dependencies, surface risks, escalate issues and track decisions to closure
- Determine investment thesis, strategic-fit criteria, intake priorities and which opportunities to actively seek or commission
- Decline proposals at screen stage and determine what reaches the Investment Committee agenda
Requirements
What you’ll need- Extensive relevant experience in commercial strategy, portfolio strategy, corporate strategy, investment governance, venture capital, business development or a related field; further experience for candidates without an advanced degree
- Exceptional pattern recognition across markets, cases and functions
- Ability to engage credibly with senior leaders, including therapeutic area leads, country managers, country presidents and cluster presidents
- Understanding of different go-to-market models, market archetypes and healthcare systems
- Strong commercial and strategic judgment
- Ability to connect market shifts, business needs and technology possibilities
- Outcome-oriented approach to AI and technology
- Ability to challenge unsupported enthusiasm and maintain portfolio coherence
- Highly structured in strategy development, governance and documentation
- Experience leading complex work through a matrix without formal authority
