About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define and evolve the applied AI strategy supporting CMO and Commercial priorities
- Translate business and transformation ambitions into technical direction and capability roadmaps
- Define the target architecture connecting AI capabilities, commercial data, enterprise platforms, applications, workflows, and user experiences
- Establish scalable, secure, reusable, and interoperable AI architecture patterns
- Provide senior applied AI and architecture leadership for AI evolution workstreams
- Shape AI architecture for internal process transformation and broader Commercial Transformation priorities
- Create frameworks for evaluating AI use cases, technologies, models, vendors, platforms, and architectural approaches
- Establish standards for AI solution architecture, agent design, model selection, retrieval, evaluation, observability, interoperability, and human oversight
- Drive reuse of common AI capabilities, services, components, and patterns across the portfolio
- Conduct architecture and technical-design reviews for significant AI initiatives
- Challenge assumptions and validate technical feasibility, scalability, responsibility, and enterprise alignment
- Partner with transformation, product, data, Digital, engineering, governance, and risk-management leaders
- Embed responsible AI, privacy, security, regulatory, legal, compliance, and quality considerations into solution architecture
- Build and lead a team of senior applied AI architects, solution architects, principal engineers, and technical experts
- Establish career pathways and communities of practice for applied AI and architecture talent
- Serve as a trusted technical adviser to CMO, Commercial, AIA, and Digital leaders
- Represent applied AI architecture in technology, investment, transformation, and governance forums
- Communicate technical vision, business implications, and recommendations to executive stakeholders
Requirements
What you’ll need- 15+ years of progressive experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data, enterprise architecture, software engineering, or technology strategy, or equivalent based on advanced degree
- Significant senior leadership experience shaping technical direction across a large, complex, and matrixed organization
- Deep expertise in applied AI, including generative AI, agentic systems, machine learning, retrieval architectures, evaluation, observability, and enterprise integration
- Proven experience defining enterprise or domain-level AI strategies and target architectures
- Demonstrated success translating complex business transformation priorities into technical strategies, roadmaps, and solution designs
- Experience establishing architecture standards, technical decision frameworks, and governance across multiple teams or business domains
- Strong understanding of enterprise data, cloud, platform, application, integration, cybersecurity, and software-engineering considerations
- Experience influencing senior executives and technical leaders without relying solely on direct organizational authority
- Demonstrated success working across product, transformation, business, data, architecture, and engineering organizations
- Experience operating in a highly regulated and complex enterprise environment
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, data science, or another relevant technical or quantitative discipline, or equivalent professional experience
- Advanced degree in a relevant discipline preferred
- Experience in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, life sciences, or another highly regulated industry preferred
- Experience defining architecture for AI-enabled commercial platforms or enterprise transformation programs preferred
- Direct experience with large language models, agent orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation, model and agent evaluation, and AI observability preferred
- Experience developing human-agent operating models and architecture for AI-enabled workflows preferred
- Demonstrated success building applied AI architecture capabilities or technical centers of excellence preferred
- Experience evaluating emerging AI technologies, strategic vendors, and external partnerships preferred
- Recognized internal or external leadership presence in applied AI, enterprise architecture, or AI-enabled transformation preferred
- Ability to work across global teams and time zones
- Candidates must be authorized to be employed in the U.S. by any employer
- Permanent work authorization in the United States is required
- U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future
