About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, motivate and develop the People Operations team
- Ensure delivery of a high-quality, professional and commercially focused people service
- Coach team members and manage performance, workload priorities and succession planning
- Act as subject matter expert for complex employee relations matters
- Provide advice and support on disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence management and dismissal cases
- Escalate and manage high-risk and sensitive employee relations issues
- Partner with managers and business leaders to improve performance, engagement, wellbeing and organisational effectiveness
- Oversee People Operations activities across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, probation management, contract administration and employee records management
- Lead the use and development of HR systems, including Dayforce
- Drive continuous improvement of people processes, service delivery and employee experience
- Develop, review and implement people policies and procedures
- Support audits, governance activities and reporting requirements
- Deliver people initiatives, organisational change programmes and wider people strategies with stakeholders
- Analyse employee relations, sickness absence, engagement and turnover trends
- Champion employee wellbeing, engagement and inclusion initiatives
- Act as a trusted advisor to managers and provide expert people guidance
Requirements
What you’ll need- Significant experience in a senior People role within a medium-sized organisation of approximately 200-1,000 employees
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing multi-person HR/People teams
- Established people leadership capability; this is not a step-up opportunity
- Extensive experience managing complex and high-risk employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, performance, absence management and dismissal processes
- Thorough understanding of legal risk
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law, HR best practice and organisational governance
- Experience developing, implementing and reviewing people policies and procedures
- Experience partnering with senior managers and business leaders
- Experience leading and supporting organisational change programmes, people initiatives and continuous improvement projects
- Strong analytical and data-driven approach
- Experience producing and interpreting people metrics, dashboards, workforce reports and HR insights
- Experience using HR systems and workforce reporting tools, ideally including Dayforce or similar platforms
- Previous experience within a white-collar, professional services or corporate environment
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
- CIPD Level 7 qualified or working towards
- Resilient, proactive and solutions-focused
- All employees must undertake and pass a Baseline Personal Security Standard (BPSS) check
- Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience desirable
