About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Counsel businesses on global and U.S. data protection legal frameworks, Internet technologies, AI systems, privacy, and regulatory compliance
  • Assist companies with compliance relating to CCPA, state privacy laws, FTC Act, GDPR, and other privacy laws and regulations
  • Draft and revise privacy notices, terms of service, incident response plans, information security policies, and data protection policies
  • Draft and negotiate professional services, vendor/service provider, data processing, cross-border transfer, and other commercial agreements involving data sharing
  • Respond to regulatory inquiries and investigations concerning privacy compliance and data breaches
  • Support corporate transactions through privacy and security-related due diligence and advice
  • Drive data breach preparation, risk mitigation, coordination, and response
  • Establish AI governance programs and policies and advise on the EU AI Act and U.S. AI and automated decision-making/profiling laws
  • Engage directly with clients and lead significant projects
  • Develop and grow the practice, career, network, and expertise

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5–6 years of experience focusing on regulatory investigations or litigation involving consumer protection issues and/or defending data privacy and security class actions
  • High level of academic achievement from a nationally recognized law school
  • General tech fluency
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Juris Doctorate degree (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school with excellent academics
  • Member of the California State Bar in good standing
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA, FCRA, GLBA, COPPA, TCPA, and CAN-SPAM
  • Experience with CCPA, state privacy laws, FTC Act, GDPR, and other global privacy laws and regulations
  • Previous or current employment with an Am Law 100 firm desired
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, oral advocacy, presentation, research, writing, analytical, organizational, time management, judgment, and decision-making skills
