About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Partner with the CTO, founders, and executives to build and scale the mortgage technology platform
  • Design, build, and maintain features across Rails API services, TypeScript/Node services, a GraphQL gateway, and React frontends
  • Own integrations with LOS systems, mortgage insurance providers, document vendors, and e-sign vendors
  • Handle data mapping, synchronization, reconciliation, retries, and idempotency
  • Design and evolve asynchronous, multi-step workflows using RabbitMQ, SNS/SQS, Sidekiq, and saga-style orchestration
  • Maintain correctness and security of the multi-tenant platform
  • Lead technical design through design documents and architecture decision records
  • Identify and reduce technical debt while improving service boundaries, module design, testing, and developer experience
  • Conduct code reviews and establish engineering standards
  • Participate in on-call, lead incident response, and implement root-cause fixes
  • Use and improve observability tools and CI/CD
  • Investigate lender-reported escalations and external LOS synchronization problems with Customer Support & Success
  • Partner with Product Managers to refine requirements and identify edge cases
  • Collaborate with UI/UX Designers on polished, accessible interfaces
  • Mentor engineers through pairing, code reviews, design feedback, and AI-assisted workflows
  • Lead AI-assisted engineering using Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex
  • Build and maintain shared AI tooling, agent instruction files, reusable skills and prompts, MCP servers, and automated workflows
  • Establish AI-use guardrails to protect secrets and customer data

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 7+ years building and running production web applications
  • Deep experience with Ruby on Rails, including API-only services, ActiveRecord, PostgreSQL, background jobs, and RSpec
  • Experience shipping UI with React and TypeScript
  • Experience with GraphQL; Apollo ideally
  • Experience building distributed, event-driven systems
  • Knowledge of retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency
  • Experience with third-party integrations, including REST, SOAP, webhooks, and partner APIs
  • Strong security and multi-tenant data isolation instincts
  • Advanced daily use of AI and agentic coding tools
  • Ability to structure context for agents and verify their output
  • Ability to write design documents and explain production incidents to non-engineers
  • Willingness to participate in on-call, incident response, observability, and blameless postmortems
  • Bonus: mortgage technology or regulated integration-heavy domain experience
  • Bonus: familiarity with LOS platforms such as Encompass, MortgageBot, or Byte, or MISMO standards
  • Bonus: Node.js/TypeScript services, Elasticsearch, Redis, Docker, AWS, CI/CD, saga or workflow orchestration patterns
  • Bonus: mentoring engineers and leading cross-team projects
