About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Mobilize people and communities to support access to sexual and reproductive health care services and sexual health information
  • Identify key constituencies and develop and carry out mobilizing strategies
  • Plan and manage short-term advocacy initiatives and projects aligned with the PPHP Strategic Plan
  • Build the number, capacity, and skills of advocacy volunteers
  • Coordinate online supporter engagement, including online advocacy and email campaigns
  • Assist in creating the annual Advocacy & Government Relations work plan
  • Plan and facilitate events and communications with activists
  • Manage advocacy and organizing projects, including Days of Action, volunteer activities, voter engagement, and legislative campaigns
  • Build and retain collaborative partnerships with allied organizations and regional coalitions
  • Represent PPHP at meetings, coalitions, and task forces
  • Recruit, train, and mobilize volunteers for phone banks, canvassing, rallies, petition drives, and other grassroots actions
  • Serve as an Advocacy & Government Relations liaison to other departments and health centers
  • Collaborate with Communications, Development, Education and Training, and other departments on special events
  • Develop and deliver presentations on legislation, policy, and advocacy
  • Speak to audiences about sexual and reproductive health and rights issues

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with emphasis in political studies/public policy, social work, or related area
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience with community organizing, political campaigns, coalition building, and/or legislative process, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Demonstrated verbal, written, project coordination, and community organizing skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred
  • Ability to utilize technology, such as databases and websites, to further public affairs goals
  • Experience and demonstrated tact in working with diverse staff, volunteers, and community representatives
  • Must work in or be based in Smithtown, New York
