About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Mobilize young people and communities to support access to sexual and reproductive health care services, sexual health information, and reproductive freedom
- Identify key constituencies and develop and conduct mobilizing strategies
- Manage student advocacy programs for high schools and colleges/universities
- Manage and supervise Planned Parenthood Generation Action programs and liaise with PPFA regarding youth advocacy efforts
- Support outreach events on college campuses to educate and activate students
- Manage the High School Advocacy Program and other student advocacy efforts
- Manage student volunteer activities, including canvassing and phone banks
- Organize PPHP’s annual Youth Lobby event
- Participate in community outreach and engagement events
- Manage advocacy and organizing projects, including voter engagement and legislative campaigns
- Build and maintain partnerships with allied organizations and coalitions
- Represent PPHP at meetings, coalitions, and task forces
- Assist with the annual Advocacy & Government Relations work plan
- Serve as liaison to other departments and health centers as needed
- Collaborate with Communications, Development, Education and Training, and other departments on special events
- Develop and deliver presentations on legislation, policy, and advocacy
- Support Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic Action Fund as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in political studies/public policy, social work, or related area
- A minimum of 1-3 years of experience with community organizing, political campaigns, coalition building, and/or legislative process, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Demonstrated verbal, written, project coordination, and community organizing skills
- Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred
- Ability to utilize technology, such as databases and websites, to further public affairs goals
- Experience and demonstrated tact in working with diverse staff, volunteers, and community representatives
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
