About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Establish, cultivate, and sustain long-term relationships with assigned donors and prospects
  • Secure and retain bequest intents, beneficiary designations, outright gifts, life income gifts, and endowments
  • Meet assigned metrics for new gift commitments through written proposals, email, and telephone
  • Conduct regular follow-up throughout gift and estate planning decisions
  • Build personal relationships with donors using listening skills, empathy, and maturity
  • Guide donors as allies in Planned Parenthood’s work in equity and social justice and as activists in the movement
  • Address donor concerns related to current events and breaking news
  • Conduct due diligence on complex gifts, including non-cash assets, non-publicly traded stock, and property
  • Coordinate internally and externally to complete gift transactions or recommend alternative strategies
  • Negotiate gift restrictions to prioritize Planned Parenthood’s current and future needs
  • Assess donors for high-touch individualized relationships and develop stewardship plans
  • Segment remaining donors into one-to-many approaches or deprioritize nonviable prospects
  • Secure one-to-one meetings with top donors and prospects across the region to solicit new and increased gifts and reconfirm high-value commitments
  • Plan travel strategically to reach every portfolio donor in a three-year cycle
  • Apply advanced knowledge of gift planning, gift acceptance policies, income, estate, and federal gift tax, investments, and investment policy
  • Model gift planning ethical standards and best practices
  • Engage with donors, donor advisors, affiliate staff, gift officers, senior directors, national directors, and organizational leadership
  • Assist with gifts, advise gift planning program strategy, resolve concerns, and provide training
  • Serve as a technical resource for major gifts officers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BA/BS degree required
  • 6+ years of development experience, including a minimum of 3-5 years in Gift Planning
  • Working knowledge of legal and tax issues related to charitable giving and capacity to research and develop knowledge further
  • High proficiency in Google and Microsoft products
  • Hands-on database skills
  • Demonstrated experience using gift calculation software
  • Knowledge of the gift planning needs of diverse communities and those in a range of family structures
  • Willingness to provide coverage at end-of-fiscal year and end-of-calendar year holiday periods, monitoring telephone and email to ensure donor needs are met and gifts are completed
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • MA/MS degree or additional certifications preferred
