About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the target architecture for a rewritten commercial real estate loan servicing platform
- Make key architecture and design decisions in real time
- Stay hands-on through delivery and pair with engineers on implementation
- Lead a forward-deployed team of AI engineers and AI agents
- Build commercial lending modernization patterns for future pilots across origination, underwriting, compliance, funding, booking, and accounting
- Develop and drive solution architecture design strategy
- Lead technical design sessions with development teams
- Create class models, sequence diagrams, component models, and detailed design specifications
- Provide architectural leadership on software design, system architecture, and solution-oriented technologies
- Advise on critical issue management as a knowledge resource and thought leader
- Communicate architectural implications, technology costs and benefits, and implementation requirements
- Guide strategy with peers and executive-level business and technology leaders
- Manage solution architecture project outcomes, including hardware and software design
- Ensure composite architecture is scalable, reliable, available, manageable, secure, and compliant with policies and standards
- Standardize and implement scalable, reliable engineering and deployment patterns
- Ensure solution designs meet confidentiality, integrity, and availability requirements
- Focus on customer needs and satisfaction
- Assess and manage risks in accordance with PNC's Enterprise Risk Management Framework
Requirements
What you’ll need- Multiple years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture
- Technical lead experience on at least one large legacy modernization involving refactoring, re-platforming, or rewriting a core system
- Hands-on experience building production systems with LLMs and agentic AI, including agent orchestration, tool use, RAG, evaluations, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design
- Experience using AI-assisted engineering to analyze, document, and rewrite legacy code at scale
- Experience reverse-engineering business rules from older codebases
- Strong cloud-native architecture background, including microservices, APIs, event-driven design, containers/Kubernetes, and AWS or Azure
- Ability to write code in Python, Java, or similar
- Ability to pair with engineers on implementation
- Ability to explain tradeoffs to engineers, business partners, and senior leaders
- Bachelor's degree
- Typically 8+ years of industry experience
- In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job-specific certifications, and experience, including military service, may be considered
- Commercial lending or commercial real estate domain knowledge preferred
- Financial services or regulated-industry experience preferred
- Forward-deployed engineer, AI solutions consultant, or startup technical founder background preferred
- Experience with agent frameworks/protocols and AI observability tools preferred
- No required certifications
