About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Set and lead Point's integrated marketing and communications strategy across earned media, paid media, social media, digital, and brand
  • Define and steward Point's brand voice, key messages, and narrative across all channels
  • Partner with the CEO and COO using strategic recommendations and performance data to drive decisions
  • Lead, coach, and develop Marketing & Communications direct reports
  • Collaborate with Development and Program Departments on departmental marketing and communications needs
  • Manage the department budget and balance internal execution with external agency support
  • Own the annual earned media strategy and editorial calendar
  • Direct the retained PR agency on KPIs and pitch scholar, alumni, and mission stories to press
  • Build an executive visibility program for the CEO
  • Shape media-ready scholar and alumni narratives with privacy, dignity, and consent
  • Own Point's brand identity and enforce brand and style guidelines
  • Drive pointfoundation.org strategy, user experience, content governance, and SEO
  • Manage integrated digital marketing across owned, earned, and paid channels
  • Oversee organizational collateral, fundraising materials, program content, event content, and digital content
  • Set social media vision and strategy and oversee execution
  • Establish analytics dashboards, KPI tracking, audience research, and competitive analysis
  • Review and approve all public-facing communications
  • Lead signature campaigns from concept through launch and measure impact
  • Drive annual impact reporting and organizational recognition efforts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years in marketing, communications, or public relations
  • 3+ years in a senior or leadership role at a nonprofit, mission-driven, or similarly complex organization
  • Senior-level experience managing a team, a department budget, and external agencies simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ownership across both strategy and execution
  • Cross-functional leadership across a complex organization
  • Intellectual curiosity and commitment to staying current on best-in-class marketing and communications practices
  • Proven track record of securing earned media coverage in national, regional, and trade outlets
  • Fluency in digital analytics, including Google Analytics, social insights, and email metrics
  • Hands-on experience with SEO, SEM, inbound marketing platforms such as HubSpot or equivalent, and CMS management
  • AI fluency and comfort using AI tools across marketing and communications work
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling across formats and audiences
  • Strong executive presence and verbal communication; comfort presenting to boards, senior leadership, and media and serving as a spokesperson
  • Highly organized and deadline-driven
  • Discretion and sound judgment with sensitive organizational information
  • Deep familiarity with the LGBTQ+ and ally community, issues, advocacy landscape, and media ecosystem
  • Passion for Point's mission and enthusiasm for communicating its philosophy, mission, and values
  • Commitment to advancing equity and inclusion
  • Preferred: change management experience, AP style fluency, prior nonprofit experience or exposure, and lived experience or existing relationships within the LGBTQ+ community
