About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

  • Empower customers to build and manage successful landscape businesses.
  • Maintain a solid book of business in a designated sales territory.
  • Identify new business opportunities with existing and potential customers to retain and grow market share.
  • Achieve assigned sales, gross margin and customer goals.
  • Recommend product solutions, upsell options and complementary items.
  • Educate customers on the product line, promotions, marketing opportunities, services and resources.
  • Prospect for new customers, including landscape contractors, golf courses and tax-supported organizations.
  • Complete cold calls to establish new business relationships.
  • Share customer feedback and market intelligence with team members.
  • Follow up to develop qualified new business leads and preserve the book of business.
  • Create and deliver complete and accurate customer quotes.
  • Close sales and ensure deliveries occur as promised.
  • Use safe driving skills and habits.
  • Support operational and accounts receivable efforts.
  • Complete data input, paperwork and internal reports in a timely manner.
  • Assist with customer service and order entry when necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A minimum of 2 years in business-to-business sales in a wholesale distribution environment with a proven track record of success.
  • Self-motivated and capable of planning and prioritizing work.
  • Excellent cold call, negotiation, persuasion and closing skills.
  • Solid product knowledge in irrigation products, fertilizers/chemicals, landscaping equipment or lighting, or outdoor living products.
  • Better than average skills in leadership, organization, presenting information and time management.
  • Clear spoken and written communication, appropriate questioning, and critical thinking to identify solutions.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to perform business math, define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong computer and record-keeping skills and aptitude to learn evolving systems, programs, handheld technology and processes.
  • Cooperative and dependable team player.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record with no more than 2 violations within 3 years.
  • Willingness to travel within a designated area.
  • Ability to occasionally lift/move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to help with customer service and order entry when necessary.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be 18 years or older to apply.
  • External offers are contingent upon successful pre-employment drug testing and background verifications.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
