About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead OppNet's people operations, culture, and employee experience
  • Plan and implement people-related aspects of organizational change, including onboarding and integrating the incoming CEO
  • Develop change management plans and communicate organizational shifts clearly, timely, and transparently
  • Serve as a trusted resource for staff during transition, monitor morale and engagement, and recommend responses to leadership
  • Equip managers with tools and coaching to lead teams through change
  • Adapt people policies, practices, and structures as organizational priorities evolve
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Oversee benefits administration and leave management
  • Partner with Finance on payroll and manage the People and Culture budget
  • Maintain the employee handbook and people policies
  • Manage and strengthen HRIS and applicant tracking systems, including ADP Workforce Now
  • Maintain the compensation approach and recommend fair and competitive adjustments
  • Manage the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, retention, and offboarding
  • Lead structured and equitable hiring processes with hiring managers
  • Design orientation and onboarding for remote and hybrid workforces
  • Support managers with performance management and individual development plans
  • Develop professional development opportunities and eventually create a learning and development program
  • Conduct exit interviews and use retention and exit data to improve practices
  • Design and administer engagement and culture surveys and facilitate response planning
  • Manage employee relations and address concerns promptly, fairly, and confidentially
  • Coach and advise managers and leaders on HR best practices
  • Facilitate learning and dialogue on inclusion, psychological safety, and leadership accountability
  • Supervise, coach, and develop the Senior Coordinator of People and Culture
  • Participate in organization-wide learning sessions, working groups, affinity groups, All-Hands meetings, State of OppNet meetings, team meetings, retreats, and institution-wide retreats

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Eight or more years of progressive experience in HR, people operations, or organizational development
  • At least three years leading an HR function, managing people, or with comparable scope and ownership
  • Track record of guiding organizations through change, ideally in a mission-driven or nonprofit setting
  • Broad HR generalist expertise, including benefits administration, payroll, employee relations, and compliance
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and HR compliance, including New York State and City requirements
  • Experience managing workforces across multiple states of residence
  • Exceptional interpersonal, facilitation, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Experience building talent systems, including recruitment, onboarding, professional development, and performance management
  • Ability to develop HR processes and tools that improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability
  • Asset-based, employee-centered approach to people leadership
  • Experience fostering connection and belonging within a remote or distributed workforce
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and integrity when handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Experience with an HRIS; ADP Workforce Now preferred
  • Genuine motivation by OppNet's mission
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless an exemption has been approved
  • Availability during core work hours of approximately 11am to 3pm Eastern, Monday through Friday
  • Ability to work with a supervisor to complete weekly full-time hours flexibly
  • Must live in the Northeast United States
