About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, integrate, deploy, and enhance AI-enabled applications, services, and user interfaces
Build LLM integrations, RAG pipelines, embeddings, vector search, and agentic workflows via Model Context Protocol (MCP)
Apply prompt and context engineering, structured outputs, model orchestration, and retrieval quality controls
Ensure compliance with Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 A and AA
Implement model evaluation, hallucination reduction, retrieval tuning, and performance optimization
Plan and oversee functional, regression, performance, accessibility, adversarial, model-quality, and user acceptance testing
Conduct AI-specific adversarial testing before each release, document findings, and mitigate risks
Maintain the RAG knowledge-base refresh schedule and escalate retrieval-relevance decline
Enforce promotion controls across environments, including security scans, unit tests, TEVV gates, and secrets management
Support MLOps workflows including versioning, drift detection, retraining, and release documentation
Prepare release packages, Software Bills of Materials (SBOMs), and ATO/security-assessment/vulnerability-remediation support
Serve as a Tier 2 / Tier 3 helpdesk escalation resource for critical and high-severity incidents
Support production operations, root-cause analysis, issue triage, and continuous improvement
Own AI/RAG pipeline designs, AI system test plans, configuration management plans, evaluation and adversarial testing reports, and SBOMs
Co-author the AI Security Certification Package
Conduct code and prompt reviews, mentor developers, and act as primary technical backup for the Lead AI Engineer

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, or a related discipline
5+ years of relevant experience, including 5+ years of hands-on AI/ML engineering, AI-enabled application development, data engineering, cloud engineering, or software engineering
1+ year of hands-on experience with Generative AI, LLM integration, RAG, model evaluation, agentic AI, or production AI systems
Strong proficiency in Python
Experience developing AI-enabled applications, APIs, services, and automation
Experience with RAG pipeline design, semantic retrieval, vector databases, and cloud-based AI workflow orchestration
Knowledge of AI testing, model evaluation, Responsible AI practices, and AI security controls in secure enterprise or federal cloud environments
Experience with AI-specific and adversarial testing, including prompt injection, jailbreak, and data poisoning, and documenting mitigations
Experience developing AI-enabled user interfaces conforming to Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 A and AA
Experience supporting release management, documentation, monitoring, and operational support
At least one current Generative AI or Machine Learning certification, including Microsoft Azure AI, AWS Generative AI/ML, Google Cloud, Databricks, NVIDIA, Certified Artificial Intelligence Practitioner (CAIP), or equivalent
Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (green card holder)
Must reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area
Must be able to pass and maintain a Government background investigation
Preferred: 7+ years of experience, including federal agency programs
Preferred: Experience with React or Angular with TypeScript, Docker/Kubernetes, and CI/CD tooling
Preferred: Experience with LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, Model Context Protocol (MCP), vLLM, TGI, Amazon Bedrock, Amazon SageMaker, and Lambda
Preferred: Experience in FedRAMP High or GovCloud environments, SBOM formats (CycloneDX/SPDX), AI-assisted accessibility remediation, OCR, and PDF tagging
Preferred: A current, favorably adjudicated federal background investigation
