About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead growth and performance of Protolabs’ global manufacturing partner ecosystem
- Own partner network expansion, supplier strategy, operational excellence, capacity planning, and cost optimization across global regions
- Strategically plan the global partner network according to commercial needs and pricing demands
- Identify and mitigate regional supply-chain risks and disruptions, including allocation and dependency risks
- Drive partner evaluation and onboarding to meet quality, lead-time, and cost expectations
- Build demand forecasting and capacity-planning capabilities
- Build and manage a pipeline of prospective manufacturing partners to address capacity and capability gaps
- Monitor regional ecosystems, including material providers and secondary vendors
- Establish supplier performance frameworks and KPIs for quality, on-time delivery, responsiveness, and customer satisfaction
- Conduct supplier evaluations and implement scalable supplier-management policies and processes
- Develop strategic relationships with key manufacturing partners and address supplier needs
- Develop supply-chain resilience strategies, geographic diversification, and contingency routing protocols
- Partner with the Global Product Manager to develop supply capacity for new materials, technologies, and post-processing options
- Contribute to the combined offering roadmap with manufacturing partners and Protolabs factory stakeholders
- Lead a team of 16 supply-chain professionals across the U.S., Europe, India, and China
- Build a high-performing team, align regional staffing and skills with business objectives, and manage talent development
- Partner with Product Management, Sourcing, Partner Operations, Logistics, and Quality teams to drive initiatives and optimize KPIs
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, engineering, business, or a related field
- 12+ years’ experience in progressive Supply Chain Management, Supplier Development, or Operations Management roles, especially within a network-based fulfillment model
- 5+ years of management experience leading teams and cross-functional initiatives
- Proven experience building and developing international supply chains across Asia, Mexico, the United States, or Europe
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing supply teams and improving supplier performance, team performance, and organizational growth
- Experience developing strategic relationships with key manufacturing partners
- Experience strategically planning supply networks, including capacity and capabilities development
- Ability to implement strategic solutions to complex supply chain and logistics challenges
- Technical experience with CNC machining, injection molding, and 3D printing
- Deep understanding of manufacturing technology advancements, materials, and post-processing options
- Ability to identify and implement best practices for manufacturing consistency and network performance improvement
- Ability to lead change and transformation initiatives while managing multiple priorities
- Negotiation expertise for managing and strengthening manufacturing-partner relationships
- Preferred: APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Six Sigma Black Belt certification
- Preferred: Experience in a network business model, particularly manufacturing
- Preferred: Understanding of platform dynamics, multi-sided markets, and network effects
- Preferred: Experience with data analytics tools and software for supply chain trends
