About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide professional legal support to Department of Legal Affairs attorneys
  • Coordinate the Legal Hold lifecycle from implementation to release
  • Facilitate e-Discovery in partnership with Information Services
  • Coordinate responses to requests for additional information from opposing parties
  • Docket, monitor, and ensure case deadlines are met; negotiate extensions as needed
  • Maintain timely status updates and complete, accurate matter records in legal matter and document management systems
  • Work with outside counsel on matter management in partnership with the lead attorney
  • Provide recommendations on case strategy
  • Support labor arbitrations, including managing exhibits, drafting witness and general outlines, identifying relevant information or witnesses, and assisting with post-hearing briefs
  • Draft responses to discrimination complaints, unfair labor practice complaints, and demand letters for attorney review
  • Proof attorney work product and incorporate final attorney edits
  • Finalize, redact, and file responses with requesting agencies or parties
  • Review personnel and pay files for proper redactions
  • Draft mediation briefs and prepare exhibits
  • Review pleadings, supporting declarations, and other documents
  • Draft employment-related settlement agreements
  • Partner with Risk and Compliance to report claims to insurance carriers and provide status updates
  • Assist with investigations into employee claims, demands, charges, or complaints before administrative agencies or through private-attorney demand letters

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate's Degree in an ABA-approved Paralegal Studies Program, or certificate from a paralegal program at an accredited secondary institution requiring at least 24 semester units in law-related courses, or a degree from an accredited secondary institution requiring at least 24 semester units in law-related courses
  • 5 years of paralegal experience in a relevant practice area with an in-house legal team, or equivalent experience in a law practice setting
  • 5 years of demonstrated experience performing substantive legal work for multiple attorneys in a relevant practice area
  • Bachelor's Degree in Paralegal Studies, Law, or Legal Studies preferred
  • Notary Public Designation/License upon hire preferred
  • 2 years of health care industry experience working with large integrated health systems preferred
