About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a field-based Medical Science Liaison within Medical Affairs
  • Support and represent PTC and its products with KOLs, clinicians, academic institutions, and professional organizations
  • Respond to unsolicited requests for information about PTC marketed and developing products
  • Build long-term relationships and establish rapport with clinicians through scientific product and disease-state discussions
  • Provide medical and clinical expertise on company products and support safe and effective product utilization
  • Attend national and regional medical meetings and symposia; engage attendees, attend scientific sessions, gather information, and summarize findings
  • Deliver fair-balanced, objective clinical and scientific presentations to HCPs, payors, and patient organizations
  • Identify speakers for advisory boards, symposia, and educational programs
  • Support regional medical initiatives such as advisory boards
  • Provide management with input on competitive therapies, business development opportunities and risks, and market insights
  • Establish and maintain relationships with health authorities, KOLs, HCPs, academic institutions, payors, and patient organizations
  • Facilitate submissions for unrestricted educational grants and research initiatives
  • Maintain awareness of medical/clinical, regulatory, compliance, and quality requirements and support company SOPs
  • Maintain and analyze competitor information and communicate relevant intelligence to internal stakeholders
  • Work cross-functionally with internal departments and external resources on Medical Affairs issues

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Advanced scientific degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, DNP, MSN, MS, Registered Dietician, or Genetic Counselor)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as Medical Science Liaison
  • Experience supporting an orphan product and/or previous clinical experience in Inborn Errors of Metabolism, genetics, and/or rare diseases
  • Experience in Phenylketonuria is preferred
  • Experience supporting high-cost products distributed through a specialty pharmacy and requiring extensive coordination with patient access services
  • In-depth, hands-on experience working with KOLs, clinicians, HCPs, payors and/or academic institutions
  • Demonstrated success interpreting scientific data and presenting research information to scientists and HCPs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including scientific/technical writing and presentations
  • Excellent understanding of the pharmaceutical delivery process
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrixed team environment
  • Analytical thinking, excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills
  • Valid driver’s license and personal automobile with an active vehicle insurance policy
  • Ability to travel daily to/from customer accounts and drive and/or fly long distances
  • Ability to meet medical-facility vendor credentialing requirements, including training, background checks, and proof of immunization
  • Willingness and ability to travel 50–60%
