About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Set strategy and drive execution of company-wide compliance and employee safety initiatives
- Own compliance governance, operating standards, regulatory risk management, and employee safety programs
- Align compliance functions with business strategy and annual operating plans
- Translate complex regulatory frameworks into scalable operating practices
- Create decision rights and escalation paths
- Report to the VP Supply Chain and Global Logistics
- Partner with Legal, Purchasing, Logistics, DC Operations, Product, Finance, IT, Sales, external regulatory partners, and brokers
- Direct company compliance and employee safety strategies aligned to QBP objectives and insurance requirements
- Establish accountability, standards, escalation paths, and management routines
- Build and lead a proactive compliance department
- Lead and develop managers across distinct compliance functions
- Manage customs compliance policies, standards, controls, and procedures for import and export activities
- Oversee trade data integrity, compliance systems, process integration, and automation opportunities
- Manage product safety compliance and support investigations and recalls
- Manage hazardous materials compliance for transportation, storage, processing, documentation, training, and operations
- Manage extended producer responsibility regulations, environmental reporting, and related obligations
- Own employee safety strategy, standards, programs, training, governance, reporting, and execution
- Identify, escalate, remediate, communicate, and document compliance risks
- Engage external partners including customs brokers, governmental agencies, insurers, claims administrators, and service providers
- Define and lead compliance strategy and annual operating plans
- Govern scalable compliance and safety programs, policies, controls, operating models, and ownership
- Provide executive recommendations on compliance risk, safety risk, claims, business impact, mitigation, and tradeoffs
- Oversee customs filings, import/export transactions, valuation, classification, country of origin, documentation, and filing timeliness
- Lead global trade risk identification and mitigation, including supplier documentation, sanctions screening, licensing, and regulatory requirements
- Identify tariff mitigation, free trade agreement, duty drawback, and other duty-reduction opportunities
- Oversee product safety investigations and lead recalls when necessary
- Establish and scale EPR and environmental reporting programs
- Own employee safety governance, training, incident management, corrective action, and continuous improvement
- Oversee incident reporting, investigation, documentation, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and stakeholder communication
- Oversee claim submission and management through resolution
- Maintain safety documentation, reporting, training records, and audit trails
- Establish compliance performance indicators and improve visibility, automation, data quality, and system-enabled controls
- Integrate compliance and safety requirements into business processes
- Build organizational engagement through training, guidance, communication, audits, and practical tools
- Represent QBP with governmental agencies, brokers, suppliers, service providers, insurers, and third parties
- Lead and develop customs, product safety, hazmat, environmental, employee safety, and compliance professionals
- Manage compliance work within QBP’s risk tolerance
- Support insurance, litigation, disclosure, investigation, audit, claims, and document requests
- Support business cases and prioritization for compliance and safety investments
- Drive remediation of compliance and safety gaps to completion
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years of relevant experience in compliance, customs, global trade, product compliance, employee safety, regulatory affairs, supply chain compliance, risk management, claims management, or related disciplines
- Progressive leadership experience building, leading, or scaling compliance, safety, claims, or risk management teams and programs
- Demonstrated ability to turn strategy into executable business plans and lead projects through completion
- Ability to analyze complex regulations and communicate business impact clearly and concisely to diverse audiences
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communication, including leading presentations
- High integrity and sound judgment
- Ability to identify risk and propose practical solutions aligned to business realities and values
- Ability to learn and engage across evolving technology platforms
- Licensed Customs Broker, or significant experience with US Customs and trade compliance, preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
- Ability to travel as needed
- Ability to work extensively on computers and communication tools
