About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Read applicable contract documents, drawings, and specifications
- Prepare material takeoffs from contract documents
- Prepare detailed estimates of labor and material for every element of the work
- Prepare estimates of temporary tie-ins for the entire project
- Conduct field surveys and visit field sites to understand project needs
- Prepare an explanation write-up of how estimates are prepared
- Coordinate signal estimates with internal civil and track discipline estimators
- Attend related meetings
- Assist the project team with preparing takeoffs
- Work on multiple projects as required
- Report to the Lead Estimator
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 10 years’ experience working in the NYCT signal system in an engineering capacity
- Minimum of 2 years in Signal Contracts
- Three (3) years of recent related experience
- Familiarity with conventional block signaling and CBTC
- Ability to translate cable plans into detailed equipment lists
- Knowledge of Signal Rooms, Train Control Rooms, Relay Rooms, racks, cabinets, inter-rack wiring, and power loops
- Knowledge of Towers and Dispatchers Offices, including control panels, workstations, and wiring
- Ability to determine working wire counts of multiple-strand signal cables
- Experience with tie-ins between new and existing signal systems
- Knowledge of testing and in-servicing/commissioning signal systems
- Knowledge of removal of decommissioned signal systems, including equipment, raceways, and cabling
- Must take training courses for all NYCT work credentials, including MTA track safety and OSHA 30
- Electrical Engineering degree is preferred
- Previous electronics training would be an asset
- Railway or construction experience would be an asset
- Must be available to work weekdays and weekends as required
- Must be able to work in the office daily; remote work is not permitted
