About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the North American employee lifecycle from pre-boarding and onboarding through contracts, amendments, leave, time off, performance cycle administration, offboarding, and documentation
  • Manage local compliance and People & Culture vendors, including payroll coordination, immigration and visa cases, benefits administration and renewals, and compensation
  • Manage partner relationships, service levels, audits, renegotiations, and escalations
  • Maintain accurate employee data in HiBob, including joiners, movers, leavers, reporting lines, cost centers, and timely terminations
  • Provide first-line support for North American policy, benefits, payroll, leave, and process questions
  • Execute employment relations matters alongside the People Partner, including warnings, performance improvement processes, and terminations
  • Improve local North American practices and processes; propose, build, and document fixes
  • Work with HR Operations colleagues in Helsinki, Amsterdam, Lisbon, and Tokyo on global process changes
  • Contribute to developing and aligning global People Operations processes across locations
  • Serve as the trusted first point of contact for employment-related matters across North America
  • Manage New York office facilities, suppliers, health and safety, internal events, and workplace culture activities
  • Report to and receive support from the Head of People & Office Operations Manager located in Finland

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Around five or more years in HR generalist, People Operations, or HR administration roles in the US
  • Working knowledge of US employment law and practice across multiple states
  • Enough Canadian employment law knowledge to run a small population competently or the appetite to build it quickly
  • Knowledge of FLSA classification, at-will employment and termination risk, FMLA and state leave programs, multi-state payroll and registration, I-9 and work authorization, and Canadian provincial equivalents
  • Experience managing external partners, including payroll providers, immigration counsel, employment counsel, benefits brokers, and accountants
  • Administrative precision and strong attention to detail
  • Judgment to handle confidential matters properly and discipline to document them
  • Ability to turn a vague situation into facts, options, stakeholders, and a recommendation
  • Comfort operating as the only People person in the room and across a six to eight hour time difference from European peers
  • Fluent working English
  • Experience in consulting, technology, or another expert-led business is useful but not required
  • Experience in a local office of an international company is useful but not required
  • Experience adapting global HR processes to a local market is useful but not required
  • Experience with immigration and relocation is useful but not required
