About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare supporting documentation, work papers, and data files for multi-state sales, use, and local tax returns
  • Review third-party draft returns and research and resolve data variances before submission
  • Serve as the primary contact for routine internal and external taxability questions
  • Resolve vendor disputes on taxed invoice amounts and support the Senior Tax Manager on complex transactions
  • Prepare journal entries and monthly balance sheet reconciliations for tax accruals, payments, and related expenses
  • Maintain and update the internal master sales tax rate listing monthly
  • Update and maintain sales tax rates within the Point of Sale system and validate system configurations
  • Respond to inquiries, jurisdictional notices, and assessments from taxing authorities
  • Research, validate, and process payments for short-paid tax invoices
  • Reconcile sales tax collected by third-party delivery partners and resolve variances
  • Coordinate with the licensing department to verify corporate registrations and tax licenses
  • Support evaluation of tax implications for product and operational rollouts
  • Analyze accrued use tax and administrative use tax and reverse applicable accruals
  • Manage issuance and tracking of resale certificates
  • Analyze tax-exempt transactions and process tax adjustments for non-compliant orders
  • Support the Senior Tax Manager with emerging tax inquiries and ad hoc compliance or data analysis projects

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum three years of relevant accounting experience, including understanding of accrual accounting and internal controls
  • Understanding of multi-state sales and use tax filing concepts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and pivot tables
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with taxing authorities, analysts, IT and accounting departments, and restaurant managers
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage high-volume workloads in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly self-motivated with ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts
  • Collaborative, proactive team player with a positive, customer-service mindset
  • Preferred: Experience with large ERP systems such as Oracle
  • Preferred: Experience with tax and accounting software such as Vertex, Hyperion, CCH, SureTax, and Business Intelligence
