About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide therapeutic and recreational services and support the independence of clients attending the Adult Day Service
  • Assist with varied activities meeting participants’ needs
  • Help participants integrate into group activities and programs, including hobbies, social events, spiritual care programs and therapeutic regimes
  • Assess participants’ abilities and interests and recommend specific programs
  • Serve meals and snacks according to proper dietary requirements
  • Provide assistance with all activities of daily living
  • Maintain appropriate records in accordance with Centre policies, procedures and legislated standards
  • Perform Day Program Assistant responsibilities as per the job description
  • Report to the Supervisor, Adult Day and Community Services

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Post secondary degree/diploma in Activation/Recreation Therapy or Social Services/Gerontology from an accredited community college is required
  • Previous experience of at least one year in Adult Day Service or a long term care setting is preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with clients, staff, volunteers and visitors
  • Computer skills
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification
  • May be required to hold a Class “F” license
  • Food Handlers Certification
  • Physically able to perform all delegated duties
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check issued within the past six months
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Testing current within the past six months
  • Various shifts Monday to Sunday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
