About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide maintenance services in the long-term care centre
  • Perform general maintenance duties and repairs
  • Make preliminary diagnoses and immediately refer major building system malfunctions
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance
  • Pick up garbage and recyclable materials throughout the building
  • Complete written daily and other reports
  • Follow policies and procedures
  • Complete projects within assigned deadlines
  • Move furniture and equipment and complete minor renovations
  • Report health and safety hazards and participate in eliminating causes of accidents
  • Perform emergency occupational health and safety measures as required, including WHMIS, Infection Control, and Fire procedures
  • Inspect electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, fire, and safety equipment
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, clean, and well-maintained environment for residents, staff, and visitors
  • Maintain good relationships with residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors
  • Perform snow removal as required
  • Report to the Facility Supervisor or designate

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma is required
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in general maintenance procedures is required
  • Ontario G Driver’s license is required for certain locations
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word)
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors
  • Physical ability to perform all delegated duties
  • Successful candidates must provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Check prior to hire
  • Successful candidates must provide TB Skin Testing prior to hire
  • Trades qualifications and/or recognized trades experience in plumbing, electricity and/or Stationary Engineering are a definite asset
