About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate reports and complete case and contact management of sexually transmitted and blood borne infections
  • Deliver services in sexual health and STBBI-focused clinic settings
  • Provide counselling and education on health promotion, disease prevention, STBBI prevention, birth control, pregnancy options, sexuality, immunization, and harm reduction
  • Perform venipuncture and specimen collection for STI testing under medical directives
  • Provide and dispense birth control, Plan B emergency contraception, and STI treatment, including injections
  • Collaborate with health professionals and agencies to coordinate counselling and treatment
  • Work with vulnerable and marginalized populations, including youth, 2SLGBTQI+ communities, homeless individuals, racialized and Indigenous peoples, people with lived experience of substance use, sex workers, and human trafficking victims
  • Document and enter data in Telus-CHR, SharePoint, and iPHIS
  • Apply population health, public health, nursing science, epidemiology, and health equity concepts to practice
  • Provide health information, teaching, and counselling to individuals, groups, families, and communities
  • Assess client health status, identify risks, establish goals, and support informed health decisions
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate public health strategies using evidence-informed decision-making
  • Develop partnerships and networks, facilitate groups, negotiate, manage conflict, and address service gaps
  • Promote equitable access, social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Mentor and orient students, new staff, and colleagues
  • Participate in research, quality assurance, professional development, emergency preparedness, and public health emergency response
  • Travel to Region of Peel clinics and partner locations across Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon
  • Perform other duties supporting organizational goals

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalent as recognized by a Canadian University
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse by the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Previous nursing experience, public/community health nursing experience, or public health consolidation placement as part of a BScN degree
  • Current certification in CPR (BLS)
  • Preferred: 1 year of STBBI case management or 2–3 years of other communicable disease (Non-COVID) case management experience
  • Clinical nursing experience in acute care or community settings
  • Experience working with marginalized communities and knowledge of disproportionate health impacts
  • Tuberculosis screening and N-95 mask fit testing may be required in certain program areas
  • Understanding of Peel’s diverse community and associated health impacts
  • Ability to provide non-stigmatizing, equitable, and inclusive care
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with internal and external partners
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, diplomacy, and confidentiality
  • Advocacy, negotiation, conflict management, and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to work independently, in a team, and on project work
