About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own features end to end across iOS, Android, and backend, from idea through release
Build consumer product features, including avatars and new ways for users to interact with Replika
Build monetization features such as paywalls, offers, and pricing tests with the growth team
Turn ambiguous ideas into concrete product features
Challenge specifications that do not hold up and advocate for stronger alternatives
Work directly with the CEO, product manager, designer, and engineering lead in a small team
Collaborate across the team by communicating, unblocking others, and avoiding silos
Work on an AI companion product designed to help users flourish and deepen human connection

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of professional software engineering experience
Experience building and shipping consumer mobile apps that reached real users
Native depth on one platform: Swift on iOS or Kotlin on Android
Features shipped on the other mobile platform
Backend development experience
API design experience
Track record of driving complex features end to end
Love of coding and agentic engineering, using available tools to move faster
Design intuition and taste
Fluent English
Bonus: founding engineer or early-stage experience building products from zero
Bonus: backend experience in Python with FastAPI or any JVM language, including Scala
Bonus: in-app purchases and subscriptions on the App Store and Google Play
Bonus: real-time features such as chat, voice, and animation
Bonus: experience shipping consumer products with significant user impact
Bonus: experience running A/B tests and using product analytics
