About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide support to multiple business units in an area in developing and implementing loss prevention programs and safety objectives, policies, procedures, and training programs
  • Provide technical expertise and consultation to business unit leadership on safety-related training programs
  • Ensure business unit loss prevention programs comply with applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations governing the solid waste industry
  • Assess division and business unit loss control program activities, including communication, training, and critical skills development
  • Monitor implementation of safety and loss prevention programs, including Focus 6 programs, and redirect activities when performance falls short of targets
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA safety regulations and Federal and State Department of Transportation regulations
  • Ensure DOT recordkeeping requirements are met
  • Prepare training materials and support monthly employee safety meetings
  • Manage return-to-duty modified/light-duty programs in partnership with HR and division management
  • Participate in serious accident/injury investigations and monitor supervisor investigations of minor accidents and injuries
  • Participate in division OSHA or DOT compliance inspections and audits
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a safety professional
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills across various levels of the organization, external customers, and agencies
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence with minimal direction
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, maintain attention to detail, and meet deadlines
  • Strong customer service orientation skills
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other applicable health and safety standards
  • A professional safety certification through a nationally recognized safety organization, such as the National Safety Council, or a college degree in Safety Management
  • Successful completion of 40-hour OSHA compliance course
