About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Partner with Store Managers, District Managers, and senior leadership to translate business priorities into people strategies
  • Anticipate workforce needs, identify people-related risks, and develop proactive solutions
  • Use HR metrics, workforce trends, and business insights to support people decisions
  • Conduct strategic store visits assessing leadership effectiveness, culture, compliance, and operational performance
  • Identify leadership and capability gaps and develop targeted solutions
  • Support talent reviews, succession planning, and leadership development strategies
  • Lead complex employee relations cases, investigations, and risk mitigation, including escalated performance, legal, and compliance matters
  • Support organizational planning for growth, restructuring, new roles, store openings or closures, and other business changes
  • Support organizational design and role clarity
  • Facilitate communication and change management across brands, regions, and leadership levels
  • Ensure consistent HR practices and compliance across Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and British Columbia
  • Review employment contract addendums and support policy implementation
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of employee relations, performance, and HR matters
  • Oversee HR documentation, BambooHR system integrity, and HR reporting including bi-weekly zero-hour reports and HR KPIs
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of HR policies, processes, tools, and programs
  • Collaborate on multi-provincial, multi-brand HR projects
  • Support Health & Safety compliance through workplace inspection reviews and investigations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • University degree required
  • CHRP designation preferred or in progress
  • Minimum 3+ years of progressive experience as an HR Business Partner in retail, including significant experience in an HR Business Partner or senior HR advisory capacity
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation across multiple provinces
  • Proven experience in strategic HR advisory, employee relations, investigations, performance management, and conflict resolution
  • Solid understanding of Employment Standards, Human Rights, and Health & Safety regulations
  • High level of discretion, integrity, and sound judgment
  • Strong ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, coaching, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate challenging conversations with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of driving multiple projects across brands in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and HRIS systems; BambooHR preferred
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French is considered a strong asset
