About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own Design as a function and serve as the accountable leader for Design at Rev
Establish the product design vision, expectations, standards, and quality of the customer experience
Define standards for interaction design, visual craft, usability, accessibility, and consistency
Connect work across teams into a cohesive product experience
Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to prioritize and address customer friction
Establish customer conversations, workflow observation, discovery, and usability testing
Translate customer findings into priorities and design decisions; validate shipped improvements
Bring product managers and engineers into direct customer learning
Personally lead high-impact design work from problem definition through exploration, prototyping, implementation, launch, and iteration
Coach the existing designer through collaboration, feedback, and clear expectations
Establish design reviews with Design, Product, Engineering, and Build leadership
Surface disagreements, clarify tradeoffs, resolve conflicts, and guide teams toward decisions
Strengthen design systems, shared components, patterns, and working practices
Establish thoughtful approaches to uncertainty, transparency, user control, correction, and recovery in AI experiences
Develop practical uses of AI for research synthesis, exploration, prototyping, and iteration
Raise the standard of customer experience and lead the design discipline through vision, craft, coaching, and accountability

Requirements

What you’ll need

Track record of leading design across complex products, owning design quality, and influencing direction beyond own projects
Exceptional taste demonstrated through recent shipped work with strong interaction design, visual craft, and customer impact
Ability to articulate a compelling design vision and translate it into standards, priorities, and shipped experiences
Substantial hands-on design ability, including proficiency in Figma and modern prototyping methods
Willingness to personally tackle critical design problems
Deep customer curiosity and experience with direct research, usability testing, product data, decisions, and iteration
Experience raising the quality of others’ work through coaching, critique, and clear expectations
Comfort with design reviews, feedback, unfinished ideas, explaining reasoning, and changing direction based on evidence
Strong partnerships with Product and Engineering leaders
Proven conflict-resolution skills
Experience building or improving design systems, accessibility, and responsive design
Practical experience designing AI-powered products and using AI in the design process
Austin location and ability to work regularly in person with the Build team and senior leadership
Nice to have: experience with AI products, B2B SaaS, legal technology, media workflows, speech technology, or conversational intelligence
Nice to have: familiarity with AI-enabled design/prototyping tools, GitHub, AI-assisted development tools, Linear or similar, Mixpanel or similar, and fast-paced startups
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field is nice to have
