About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Remain available during agreed coverage hours for contact by the RMI Global Coordination Centre
  • Deploy to predefined medical facilities within 1 hour of notification, or within other agreed timeframes, to meet and greet RMI patients
  • Coordinate payment methods with receiving medical facilities and mediate between facilities and the Global Coordination Centre when needed
  • Ensure swift patient access to care and resolve problems pragmatically and professionally
  • Translate local dialect to English verbally and in writing for the Global Coordination Centre
  • Visit medical facilities daily during protracted inpatient stays
  • Manage patient welfare during admission, ensuring comfort, treatment understanding, and reasonable support requests
  • Establish relationships with treating physicians and obtain current information from medical teams
  • Provide timely written and verbal patient-status and care-plan updates to the Global Coordination Centre
  • Liaise professionally with client management as required
  • Use local knowledge to arrange additional services
  • Serve as the RMI representative for patients’ operational and pastoral requirements
  • Support the Global Coordination Centre with security and receipt of payments to third-party medical establishments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a medical healthcare professional in the area of operation
  • Bilingual in the local language and dialect and English
  • Experience providing patient advocacy in remote/international areas preferred
  • Foreign travel experience
  • Excellent communication skills and professionalism
  • Demonstrated self-discipline
  • Ability to integrate into a cross-cultural social structure
  • Experience working with case management specialists in a Global Coordination Centre
  • Ability to proactively and independently manage workload
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and general computer and technology literacy preferred
  • Valid driver’s license for the area of operation preferred
  • Ability to understand, speak, read, and write English
  • Ability to understand, speak, read, and write the applicable local dialect
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions
  • Physical readiness and conditioning may be a condition of job retention
  • Ability to work in close contact with small and large groups
  • Ability to work with considerable exposure to medical facilities and blood-borne pathogens
