About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead global teams responsible for setting, maintaining, and governing Roche Diagnostics’ official policy positions
- Define policy across trade and industry, regulatory, healthcare, and environmental domains
- Develop and cascade a streamlined matrix of global policy positions
- Champion awareness of healthcare trends influencing the business
- Manage high-stakes relationships with global external bodies, including the WHO and OECD
- Serve as primary global representative and executive connector for Roche Diagnostics across regulatory entities, multilateral organisations, external partners, and policy platforms outside the US
- Align policy stances with regional and country affiliates, Genentech, Roche/Genentech Pharma, and Roche Group stakeholders
- Build and leverage partnerships with industry associations, international NGOs, and patient advocacy coalitions
- Direct advocacy strategies to shape the global policy agenda
- Translate global policy positions into actionable local strategies
- Establish global-to-local feedback networks for market insights, country trends, and policy risks
- Provide visionary, architectural, catalytic, and coaching leadership
- Collaborate across QR&E, Diagnostics, Pharma, Commercial, Legal, and Corporate Sustainability functions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Advanced degree (Master’s, Ph.D., or JD) in Public Policy, Health Policy, International Relations, Law, Environmental Affairs, or Life Sciences
- Minimum 15+ years of global or multi-regional leadership experience in External Affairs, Policy Setting, or Government Relations within the In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD), Medical Device, or Pharmaceutical sectors
- Proven track record of leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing global teams
- Experience building strong internal policy capabilities and fostering talent growth within a complex, matrixed organization
- Proven experience leading central policy development and building multi-stakeholder partnerships across regulatory, healthcare, environmental, and trade domains
- Demonstrated executive presence and media expertise
- Track record of influencing C-level executives, Board members, and key external global stakeholders
- Experience serving as an articulate spokesperson on complex policy matters
- Exceptional strategic and analytical thinking skills with ability to simplify complex topics
- Proven leadership skills in complex and matrixed environments, building coalitions and advising senior executives
- Ability to distill complex regulatory, environmental, and trade issues into unified policy stances
- Track record acting as principal spokesperson and negotiator with high-level external partners and public authorities
- Ability to influence, align, and partner with regional and local country affiliates without direct hierarchical authority
- Ability to balance long-term global policy shaping with near-term commercial needs of regional business units
