About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as a core member of the interdisciplinary care team for pediatric palliative care patients and families in home and community settings
- Develop and deliver child life support addressing developmental, emotional, and psychosocial needs of children, teens, and siblings
- Assess developmental and psychosocial needs and coping styles with parents/caregivers
- Develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care using medical play, expressive techniques, education, procedural support, and developmental and psychosocial interventions
- Promote safe and nurturing environments in homes, schools, and community settings
- Provide developmentally appropriate diagnostic teaching and education to caregivers
- Facilitate expressive and therapeutic play, grief and bereavement interventions, memory making, and legacy work
- Advocate for children and families and communicate their wishes and goals to the care team
- Plan age-appropriate programming for peer support and reduced isolation
- Document communications and interventions
- Participate in Interdisciplinary Group meetings and meet department productivity standards
- Collaborate with facility child life staff to promote consistent care
- Maintain privacy, uphold organizational values and code of conduct, and perform other assigned functions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) certification from the Association of Child Life Professionals is required
- Minimum of 3 years related experience
- Bachelor’s degree in child life, psychology, child development, or human service required
- Must have ability to travel
- Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
- Basic computer skills, including Windows-based operating environments, email, and electronic documents
- Ability to learn and utilize new systems, computer applications, and operating environments with training
- Regular and reliable attendance is required
- Ability to meet physical demands of frequent driving, mobile clinical care, entering and exiting vehicles, and occasionally lifting/carrying equipment up to 100 lbs. or more
