About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Utilize electronic medical record modules and office equipment to perform clerical tasks efficiently and timely
  • Support patient encounters and assist providers including physicians, physician assistants, certified nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners
  • Ensure accurate documentation in EMRs
  • Maintain communication with the care team, patients, and caregivers
  • Schedule appointments and manage referrals
  • Handle phone communication and prepare records
  • Collect payments
  • Support billing and insurance inquiries
  • Maintain efficient patient schedules
  • Ensure adherence to organizational policies, healthcare regulations, and DNV accreditation standards
  • Collaborate with management to resolve clerical issues and improve patient service quality
  • Work with St. Lawrence Health System and PPM teams on daily operations, educational programs, and process improvements
  • Participate in special projects and promote the organization’s mission and core values

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Advanced technical training and/or certification preferred
  • Formal education beyond high school preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year recent outpatient medical office experience
  • Knowledge of electronic health record/electronic medical record (EHR/EMR) usage
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to use EMR modules and office equipment
  • Ability to work the stated schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
  • Sedentary office-based work involving prolonged sitting (67–100% of the workday)
  • Computer, writing, and telephone fine motor skills
  • Clear visual and auditory ability
  • Ability to meet high cognitive and emotional demands, including extended concentration, frequent interruptions, independent decision-making, and information processing
  • May require flexible hours, TB screening, or a valid driver’s license
  • Additional department-specific experience, educational expectations, and continuing education requirements may apply
