About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support implementation of Individual Placements in the Upper Rio Grande and Middle Rio Grande regions
  • Coordinate with the Individual Placement Program Manager and Taos-based Coordinator
  • Communicate with project partners to align objectives and goals for placement positions
  • Update the Project Impact database with measurable results
  • Complete regular reporting for grant and agreement requirements
  • Develop IP-specific data collection processes
  • Assist with new program initiatives and long-term planning
  • Maintain existing partner agreements and develop new placements with federal, state, county, local, and nonprofit organizations
  • Build and maintain partner relationships and ensure host-site alignment with RMYC’s mission
  • Supervise, coach, and guide Individual Placements using Positive Youth Development
  • Support participant wellness, health, Individual Development Plans, evaluations, and transitions
  • Address disciplinary issues and workplace conflicts
  • Review and approve timecards and assist with onboarding and personnel paperwork
  • Recruit, orient, and train Individual Placements
  • Facilitate technical training and in-person and virtual orientations
  • Train participants in office software, chainsaw and crosscut saw use, trail construction, habitat restoration, ecological monitoring, fence construction, GIS, backcountry navigation, and other project skills
  • Provide data-collection training for forest health monitoring, trail maintenance, habitat improvement, and related initiatives
  • Conduct field visits to observe, audit, and provide feedback on field practices
  • Participate in the rotating On Call team for after-hours field support and incident response
  • Document, debrief, and log field incidents for trend analysis
  • Support purchases and delivery of tools, gear, and supplies
  • Assist with Conservation Program orientations, recruiting, community events, outreach, and training as capacity allows
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum two years of field experience in natural resource management, outdoor education, or related fields
  • Minimum one year of experience with a Youth/Conservation Corps or other program serving youth and young adults
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable motor vehicle record
  • Pre-employment background check, including an FBI fingerprint background check
  • Knowledge of current conservation initiatives, especially in the American Southwest
  • Knowledge of public land managing agencies, recreation management, and natural resource management
  • Ability to train others in appropriate skills and outdoor safety practices, including GPS and DeLorme inReach units
  • Ability to work well with youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds and educational levels
  • Demonstrated proficiency in off-road driving
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Excellent group facilitation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of corpsmembers, staff, community members, and stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and ability to write accurate, thorough, and timely correspondence and reports
  • Ability to travel to remote project locations throughout New Mexico, camp overnight or occasionally for multiple nights, and work in backcountry settings
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Preferred: First Aid/CPR Instructor certification
  • Preferred: Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or higher medical certification, or ability to obtain WFR within 6 months
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain and occasionally hike long distances carrying 40–50 pounds of gear or personal equipment
