About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide logistical, technical, and administrative support to Individual Placements completing projects throughout New Mexico
- Implement Individual Placements in the Upper Rio Grande and Middle Rio Grande regions
- Coordinate with project partners to establish objectives and goals for IP positions
- Maintain partner communication and relationships during and after project implementation
- Update the Project Impact database and complete grant and agreement reporting
- Develop IP-specific data collection processes
- Assist with new program initiatives and long-term planning
- Identify future opportunities with existing partners and develop new positions and partnerships
- Seek partnerships with federal, state, county, and local agencies and nonprofit organizations
- Directly supervise, coach, and guide Individual Placements using Positive Youth Development
- Support participant wellness, health, development plans, evaluations, and transitions
- Address disciplinary issues, conflicts, and workplace matters
- Review and approve timecards and assist with onboarding and personnel paperwork
- Recruit, orient, and train Individual Placements
- Facilitate in-person and virtual orientations and technical skills training
- Train participants in office applications, chainsaw and crosscut saw use, trail construction, habitat restoration, ecological monitoring, fencing, GIS, navigation, and other project skills
- Provide data-collection training for forest health monitoring, trail maintenance, habitat improvement, and related initiatives
- Conduct field visits to observe, audit, and provide feedback on practices
- Participate in the rotating on-call team for after-hours field support and incident response
- Document, debrief, and log field incidents for trend analysis
- Support purchases and delivery of tools, gear, and supplies
- Assist with conservation program orientations, recruiting, community events, outreach, and training as capacity allows
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum two years of field experience in natural resource management, outdoor education, or related fields
- Minimum one year of experience with a Youth/Conservation Corps or other program serving youth and young adults
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 21 years of age
- Valid driver’s license and insurable motor vehicle record
- Pre-employment background check required, including an FBI fingerprint background check
- Knowledge of current conservation initiatives, especially in the American Southwest
- Knowledge of public land managing agencies, recreation management, and natural resource management
- Ability to train others in appropriate skills and outdoor safety practices, including GPS and DeLorme inReach units
- Ability to work well with youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds and educational levels
- Demonstrated proficiency in off-road driving
- Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite applications
- Excellent group facilitation and conflict resolution skills
- Effective communication with diverse groups of corpsmembers, staff, community members, and stakeholders
- Attention to detail and ability to write accurate, thorough, and timely correspondence and reports
- Ability to travel to remote project locations throughout New Mexico and camp overnight or for multiple nights
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly
- Ability to traverse uneven terrain and occasionally hike long distances carrying 40–50 pounds
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Preferred: First Aid/CPR Instructor certification
- Preferred: Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or higher medical certification, or ability to obtain WFR within 6 months
