About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the growth and day-to-day management of Rocky Mountain Youth Corps’ Individual Placement Program
  • Serve as the program’s forward-facing ambassador and primary representative to partners across New Mexico
  • Develop and maintain local, state, and federal partnerships
  • Secure placement opportunities and oversee an approximately $2 million program portfolio
  • Supervise multiple Individual Placement Coordinators and provide indirect oversight of Individual Placements
  • Guide orientation, training, risk management, reporting, and annual evaluation systems
  • Oversee recruiting, hiring, training, supervision, and performance management of Individual Placements
  • Directly manage at least two Individual Placement Coordinators in both RMYC offices
  • Support organizational leadership with partnership expansion and development of new partnerships through grants, agreements, foundations, and donor solicitation
  • Identify technical and non-technical capacity needs and support training and orientation
  • Solicit, plan, and coordinate partnerships, initiatives, and projects
  • Serve as primary point of contact for project partners and funders
  • Establish and maintain an annual project calendar
  • Evaluate and monitor programs and projects for goals, safety, and performance standards
  • Prepare timely and accurate reporting for funders, partners, and internal use
  • Build and manage project and staff budgets and ensure fiscal controls
  • Support solicitation, negotiation, and management of grants, agreements, and donations
  • Provide risk management oversight and develop safety systems and protocols
  • Ensure staff and Individual Placements are trained to safely perform assigned work
  • Audit, improve, and develop program, data collection, vehicle, equipment, PPE, training fund, and timecard systems
  • Participate in staff meetings, retreats, service days, and leadership and management meetings
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with direct reports
  • Attend conferences and training for professional development and program and partnership opportunities
  • Complete paperwork accurately and efficiently and perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • College or vocational or technical training in education, youth development or a related field required
  • Four-year college preferred; relevant work experience may be substituted for all or part of the education requirement
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Youth/Conservation Corps or related field
  • Demonstrated record of establishing local, state, and federal partnerships
  • Experience working with young people, preferably in an outdoor and/or experiential setting
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal public land managing agencies and partner organizations
  • Knowledge of budgeting systems and development of bids, quotes, and budgets
  • Understanding of nonprofit operations and leadership
  • Familiarity with chainsaw use, crosscut saw use, trail construction and maintenance, forestry, landscaping, fencing, and hand tool use and maintenance
  • Knowledge of the local area, community organizations, educational and training systems, public agencies, and private industry
  • Understanding of conservation and land/water management in the Southwest
  • Ability to balance programming, financial management, and outreach
  • Exemplary organizational skills
  • Excellent managerial, mentoring, problem-solving, communication, and outreach skills
  • Strong group facilitation skills
  • Proficient in all Google Suite applications and ability to manage information in an organizational database
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines

  • Bilingual Spanish/English speaking preferred
  • Three years of management and supervisory experience
  • Wilderness First Responder certification preferred; if not certified, certification should be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Periodic overnight travel and non-traditional work hours, including weekends and evenings
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, and operate office equipment, telephone, and computer
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Ability to drive an organizational vehicle
  • Successful pre-employment background check, including FBI fingerprint screening and national sex offender registry check
  • Must have an insurable driving record
