About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Operate non-invasive ultrasound imaging equipment using high-frequency sound waves to produce images for physician interpretation
  • Follow established protocols under the medical supervision of certified radiologists
  • Assist radiologists with procedures as needed
  • Supervise assigned student Radiological Technologists
  • Perform and teach Ultrasound exams to produce satisfactory diagnostic images
  • Operate ultrasound equipment safely
  • Work with patients, staff, physicians, and student Technologists
  • Work across department locations including Roper (Downtown Charleston), BSSF Hospital (West Ashley), Mount Pleasant Hospital, Berkeley Hospital (Summerville), and Sawmill (Summerville)
  • Work PRN/as needed, including any shift, with possible call, weekend, and holiday coverage

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Allied Health Professionals
  • Prefer one-year experience in diagnostic ultrasound
  • Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and/or ARRT Ultrasound; or have obtained the Sonographic Principles and Instrumentation exam with the ARDMS and must obtain registry with the ARDMS and/or ARRT Ultrasound within fifteen (15) months from date of hire or transfer into position; or current Roper St. Francis Healthcare teammate with at least 20 years of experience
  • Prefer registered in Abdomen and OB/GYN
  • If ARRT, must be certified or provide documentation that certification has been applied for with the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association
  • Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card
  • SCRQSA licensure only required if employee is credentialed as a Radiologic Technologist
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of ultrasound physics and cross-sectional anatomy
  • Demonstrated ability to perform and teach Ultrasound exams to produce satisfactory diagnostic images for interpretation
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DHEC, FDA and TJC standards and regulations
  • Ability to safely operate Ultrasound equipment
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Mature individual who projects a professional and business-like appearance
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality of work related information
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, and use of finger/hand dexterity
  • Ability to intermittently lift, move or carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Corrected hearing and vision to normal range
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours
  • May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on department needs
