About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Manage and coordinate architectural design work for newbuild, revitalization, and refurbishment projects
Plan, manage, and guide design work
Coordinate with external architectural, interior design, and consultancy firms worldwide
Review drawings and proposals, recommend decisions, and provide innovative solutions
Ensure design intent is apparent and credible throughout the design process
Communicate Executive Steering Committee and Brand Think Tank direction consistently
Apply brand, design, CADD, drawing, and contract standards
Assist with oversight to ensure project materials are delivered on time
Uphold SQM practices throughout all design phases
Attend meetings with sponsors and clients
Coordinate VR/IT initiatives and operate CAVE
Collect, compare, store, and analyze statistical information about ships and areas
Support creation of foundational brand-design and immersion decks
Create management reports and provide project-progress visibility
Assist with cost-complexity balancing and cost-control needs
Assist with practicality reviews covering operational, risk, and accessibility concerns
Support shop drawing reviews, yard and contractor coordination meetings, mockup reviews, factory visits, and inspections during newbuilding and drydock periods
Research industry trends and innovation
Occasionally develop design concepts, space plans, design development, drawings, and details for designated venues
Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need

Minimum of 5 years design industry experience required
Minimum of 2 years managing large scale projects
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Interior Design required
Architecture preferred
Cruise ship newbuild or revitalization design experience preferred
Graphic design background desirable
Knowledge of cruise ship staterooms or crew areas preferred
Skills in at least 2 of: AutoCAD, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, SketchUp
Microsoft Project knowledge is nice to know
Effective written, oral, and graphic communication skills
Ability to work on multiple projects and tasks under various team members
Strong ability to maintain focus
Ability to travel internationally or domestically 15% of the time
Must be able to perform duties involving talking, hearing, sitting, standing, writing, reviewing and typing reports, compiling data, operating a PC, and moving around the office complex
May need to climb, descend, lift or move 10 pounds
