About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead, manage, and continuously improve the safety program for Ryan Companies’ Southwest Region
  • Ensure regional projects comply with regulatory requirements and company safety standards
  • Support operations leadership, mentor safety staff, and drive consistent implementation of safety initiatives
  • Lead regional and divisional short- and long-term safety objectives
  • Maintain awareness of safety status across regional projects
  • Frequently visit construction sites to verify policy and procedure implementation
  • Review safety trends, metrics, and leading indicators and provide actionable recommendations
  • Lead communication with Regional Field Coordinators and Directors of Construction regarding project safety performance
  • Develop and facilitate safety training sessions and maintain training content
  • Maintain OSHA and Cal/OSHA recordkeeping requirements
  • Conduct and oversee regional and project-level safety meetings, audits, inspections, and site walks
  • Mentor jobsite teams on hazard recognition and mitigation
  • Lead safety and risk planning for Preconstruction Kick-Off Meetings
  • Participate in Project Safety Committee and Company Safety Committee meetings
  • Lead and supervise regional safety staff
  • Support employee development through mentoring, training, and performance reviews
  • Assist with regional safety strategy, annual goals, initiatives, and budget management
  • Lead incident investigations and ensure reporting, corrective actions, and claim management
  • Participate in OSHA responses and insurance carrier reviews
  • Oversee safety documentation, Job Hazard Analyses, permits, signage, manuals, and procedures
  • Participate in subcontractor pre-qualification and safety evaluations
  • Support preconstruction teams with safety planning and site walks
  • Ensure compliance with client-specific safety requirements and third-party platforms
  • Coordinate and oversee required Cal/OSHA permits when applicable
  • Participate in industry safety organizations, committees, conferences, and networking events
  • Develop relationships with internal leadership, trade partners, OSHA offices, and regulatory agencies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least 5 years of experience implementing and managing safety programs specific to commercial construction projects
  • Ability to work independently and productively with others
  • Experience assisting in incident investigations, including near misses, injuries, property damage, and incidents impacting the public
  • Working understanding of OSHA, NFPA 70E, and LOTO requirements related to the construction industry
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use construction technology systems and multiple computer software platforms
  • Leadership, initiative, self-starting ability, and ability to complete tasks with little supervision
  • OSHA 30-hour construction certificate
  • Four-year degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, or a related field, or 5–15 years of relevant project field experience in construction safety with an expectation to earn a supporting degree preferred
  • Current first-aid, CPR, and AED training from a nationally recognized organization
  • CSP, CIH, ASP, or CHST board-certified credential is a plus
  • Ability to travel to project locations, expected to be no more than 20% weekday travel
  • Bilingual Spanish is a plus
  • Proficiency with Procore and Hammer Tech
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic technical issues
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines
  • Basic understanding of business operations and workflows
