About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, and maintain production systems
- Contribute to technical architecture and engineering decisions
- Build functionality around maps, geographic coordinates, spatial relationships, and geometric data
- Extract, process, validate, and transform geometry from unstructured or semi-structured documents
- Develop geographic measurements, distance, routing, asset-location, and other location-based calculations
- Translate geographic information into reliable, visualizable, measurable data for field use
- Handle inconsistent formats, incomplete information, and ambiguous inputs
- Prioritize data accuracy and identify cases where reliable results cannot be produced
- Contribute to code reviews, engineering standards, testing, and continuous integration
- Improve reliability through monitoring, observability, and safe failure mechanisms
- Own geospatial capabilities, map and geometry workflows, distance and routing functionality, core engineering, reliability and quality, and data correctness
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Track record of taking ownership of technical decisions and production systems
- Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript and Node.js
- Previous experience developing software involving GIS, mapping, coordinates, geometry, or other geospatial data
- Practical knowledge of GeoJSON, KML, GIS platforms, routing, mapping systems, fleet tracking, logistics, agriculture, drones, or location-based applications
- Experience processing incomplete, inconsistent, noisy, or difficult-to-interpret data
- Strong attention to accuracy, data integrity, and system correctness
- Ability to reason about edge cases and design safe systems when information is insufficient or uncertain
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills
- Comfortable working independently in a remote and distributed engineering environment
- Nice-to-have experience or education related to civil engineering, surveying, construction, asphalt, or estimating
- Nice-to-have familiarity with construction concepts, DOT bid packages, construction documentation, construction estimating platforms, 3D geospatial information, Turf.js, proj4js, PostGIS, or similar spatial libraries and databases
