About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Research and interpret legal, regulatory, contractual, commercial and economic developments affecting the upstream oil and gas sector in Africa
  • Assess how contractual, regulatory and fiscal developments may affect upstream operations and investment decisions
  • Share insights with clients and market participants through presentations and strategic discussions on regulatory risk
  • Maintain regulatory tracking resources and contribute to consistent, evidence-based risk assessments
  • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and regions to produce integrated research on key trends impacting the African oil and gas sector
  • Develop subject-matter expertise and provide clear, actionable legal and commercial insights to support clients and policymakers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Relevant legal or project economics experience or training in energy, petroleum, mining, taxation or a related area of law
  • A few years of relevant experience in upstream petroleum legal analysis, energy regulation or commercial energy-sector research
  • Experience researching and interpreting legal or regulatory frameworks and communicating findings clearly
  • Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information and translate it into clear, actionable insights
  • Clear written and spoken English communication, including presenting findings to internal or external audiences
  • French and/or Portuguese communication skills preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience analysing legal, regulatory, commercial or policy developments in energy or another regulated industry preferred
  • Knowledge of African markets welcomed
  • Knowledge of petroleum economics, energy policy, regulation or taxation
  • Interest in or experience using AI-enabled tools and emerging research methods responsibly
  • Experience collaborating across geographic regions, disciplines or cultural contexts
