About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provides strategic leadership, departmental oversight, and direction for the Quality and Medical Records Departments
- Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and statewide reporting requirements
- Develops departmental strategy, goals, KPIs, operational standards, policies, procedures, workflows, and documentation standards
- Leads quality improvement projects and oversees the Quality Improvement Program
- Oversees the Annual Quality Report & Plan and critical incident reporting to MSHN and MDHHS
- Chairs and directs the Quality Governance Council
- Oversees customer satisfaction survey design, distribution, analysis, and reporting
- Reviews quality submissions before executive approval
- Oversees medical records operations, release of information, record maintenance, archiving, confidentiality, audits, and corrective actions
- Ensures adherence to HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, Michigan Mental Health Code, and SCCMHA policies
- Serves as senior BI leader for data integrity, reporting standards, and enterprise reporting
- Assists with Power BI dashboards, SSRS reports, pivot tables, and the BI Report Dictionary
- Provides high-level data analysis and executive-level briefings to leadership, Board committees, and external partners
- Leads agency-wide process improvement using Rapid Cycle Quality Improvement methodologies
- Develops and delivers training on quality improvement, data reporting, and compliance
- Oversees implementation of quality reporting requirements and EMR updates
- Leads cross-departmental process redesign and collaborates with Compliance, IT, BI, Clinical, and Administrative teams
- Represents SCCMHA on regional and statewide committees, workgroups, and accreditation activities
- Reports to the Chief Information Officer/Chief Quality and Compliance Officer
- Supervises the Quality Projects & Reporting Coordinator, Quality Improvement Program Coordinator, Quality Projects & Reporting Specialist, and Typist Clerk – Medical Records
- May commute to other SCCMHA facilities, business partners, and vendor locations
- Presents reports, facilitates meetings, creates agendas, maintains minutes, and performs project management tasks
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Applied Science, Healthcare Administration, or another closely related field
- Master’s degree preferred in Business Administration, Health Administration, Quality Management, Data Analytics, or related field
- Seven (7) years of progressive experience in quality management, data analytics, medical records administration, or related fields
- Three (3) years of supervisory or managerial experience
- Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-level projects, regulatory reporting, and cross-functional teams
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in a regulated healthcare or behavioral health environment preferred
- Valid Michigan Driver’s license with good driving record
- Expert competency in Microsoft Excel
- Competency with data visualization related to process improvements
- Knowledge of mental health services
- Advanced proficiency in data governance, reporting architecture, and quality analytics
- Ability to supervise staff, balance priorities, and manage departmental responsibilities
- Ability to manage complex projects with minimal oversight
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise mature judgment
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in high-risk compliance and confidentiality matters
- Professional-level verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present to executive and public audiences
- Ability to lift boxes and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds and perform extended periods of walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and climbing
- Ability to work varied and extra hours and respond to urgent issues outside standard business hours when required
