About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Participate in system architecture design, development, integration testing, validation, and all aspects of the software life cycle for Java back-end applications
  • Design and develop Java code according to project requirements
  • Work closely with the tech lead and senior developers
  • Work with and mentor junior team members
  • Collaborate with users in an Agile development approach to understand requirements
  • Elicit feedback and refine solutions through demonstrations
  • Provide application support during testing and production
  • Work with the lead to deploy code fixes as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • B.S. Degree in Computer Science or Engineering and 2+ years of software development experience
  • 2+ years of Java/JEE design and software development experience, including designing, developing, and documenting large-scale enterprise software systems
  • 1+ year working with cloud applications utilizing serverless hosted services such as AWS Lambda
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, DocumentDB, and DynamoDB
  • Docker and Kubernetes experience
  • Spring Boot/AWS cloud experience
  • Web/microservices experience
  • SQL databases, preferably Oracle
  • XML/JSON
  • Unix/Linux
  • Extensive JDBC/JPA/Hibernate skills and strong SQL skills
  • Knowledge of standard design patterns
  • Demonstrated expertise in software engineering practices, including reading/generating software specifications, design patterns, and continuous integration
  • GitLab/JIRA/Jenkins for CI/CD
  • Ability to obtain and hold a public trust position and favorable suitability based on a CBP Background Investigation
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be within the GWA/commutable area for on-site Ashburn, VA visits
  • Master’s degree in computer science or related field is desired
  • Agile development experience is a plus
  • React experience is a plus
  • IBM MQ, JMS, EJB, MDB, and other JEE technologies
  • JEE Server experience with WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, or equivalent
