About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Act as the pilot and other controllers in an Air Traffic Controller training simulator
  • Oper a simulated radar display and voice communication system
  • Simulate pilot actions and remote ATC facility communications during medium- and high-fidelity training exercises
  • Receive voice commands from students
  • Enter appropriate actions into the automated system to simulate pilot actions
  • Translate displayed information into appropriate ATC terminology
  • Respond to students via the Voice Communication System using proper phraseology
  • Complete Classroom certification by passing a test on airspace and procedures
  • Complete Lab certification by performing as a Remote Pilot Operator on all positions
  • Support FAA air traffic controller training services at the Fairbanks ATCT/TRACON facility

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to read and interpret diagrams and manuals
  • Ability to speak clearly and be understood
  • US Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team is desired
  • Experience and certification in ATC Tower, TRACON, or En Route simulation lab is strongly desired but not required
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of FAAO JO 7110.65 is strongly desired but not required
  • Effective team-building skills
  • MS Office Suite proficiency, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Basic familiarity with current technology tools, including tablets, notebooks, and applications
  • Basic familiarity or experience with pilot/controller communications or phraseology
