About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead efforts and initiatives involving tactical networks
  • Design, develop, and sustain Department of Defense system networks
  • Work with development and sustainment engineering teams to improve and modernize afloat networks using Agile methodology in a DevOps environment
  • Support TACNET Sustainment Team and TACNET CB-ISEA tactical network sustainment and modernization
  • Support system installations, configuration management enforcement, system sustainment and upgrades, distance support, and emergent onsite CASREP support
  • Provide system life cycle software engineering support for NAVWAR and NIWC customers
  • Analyze and modify software components on supported tactical networks, including replacing end-of-support commercial off-the-shelf components and supporting new system interfaces
  • Analyze failure data, trouble reports, and U.S. Navy Fleet communications to identify system deficiencies
  • Propose solutions, conduct peer reviews, and work with production engineers to implement solutions
  • Create and update engineering documentation and manage solutions through formal configuration management
  • Attend technical meetings, report technical progress, prepare briefs, and deliver presentations
  • Participate in Integrated Product Team, Technical Working Group, and engineering/design review meetings
  • Develop engineering solutions primarily for Red Hat/Linux-based operating systems
  • Perform root cause analysis and recommend permanent configuration changes
  • Develop, integrate, test, debug, and tune complex software solutions
  • Apply pattern-based architecture, governance, and security to system changes and deployments
  • Use Atlassian tools, including JIRA, to support Agile and sprint-based operations
  • Lead development and deployment of source code across multiple classification levels and environments
  • Create low-level work product activities and estimate durations for scope documents and schedules
  • Work with consultants, agencies, vendors, and other external partners to troubleshoot intra-system issues and support system integration design
  • Apply object-oriented programming to web-based programming languages

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree and 14 or more years of experience; or Master’s degree and 12 or more years of experience; or PhD/JD and 9 or more years of experience
  • Experience supporting DoD C4ISR systems in an enterprise-level IT environment, including ISNS, CANES, ADNS, SCI Network, CENTRIX, ORT, or FSW
  • 4 or more years of experience in a DevOps-based environment and familiarity with Agile practices
  • 2 years of experience with scripting languages and automation using PowerShell and XML development
  • 2 years of experience designing, analyzing, and supporting local area networks
  • Experience in cloud computing environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and/or Flankspeed Edge
  • Experience with Microsoft stack technologies including .NET 4.0, C#, and PowerShell
  • Experience with Linux programming languages
  • Current IAT Level II compliance (Security+) and OS certification; may obtain within 6 months if not currently held
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have an active DoD Secret Clearance or higher to start
  • Knowledge of U.S. Navy ship and shore networking systems is a plus
  • Experience with SCRUM methodologies is a plus
