About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Edit, proofread, and provide writing support for technical and non-technical documents
  • Design, prepare, and create new media projects and technical documents, including manuals, procedures, specifications, and program plans
  • Check drafts for format, clarity, cohesiveness, editorial compliance, and government specifications
  • Produce and revise technical articles, proposals, publications, books, manuals, reports, and marketing materials
  • Determine project requirements and present finished-product drafts to users
  • Review technical staff drafts and provide constructive improvement suggestions
  • Design and develop multimedia applications, systems, and products using computer graphics and interactive computing tools
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, engineers, and program managers to gather information and ensure content accuracy and completeness
  • Manage multiple documentation projects and meet deadlines
  • Support configuration management and document control processes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, or related field with 6 or more years of related experience; OR Master’s degree with 4 or more years of related experience; OR PhD with related experience
  • Complete understanding and wide application of communications and technical writing principles, concepts, practices, and standards
  • Full knowledge of industry practices in technical documentation and communications
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise content
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Familiarity with document management systems and version control tools
  • Active Secret clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Experience supporting Navy or DoD weapons systems acquisition programs
  • Familiarity with MIL-SPEC documentation standards, including MIL-STD-40051 and MIL-STD-38784
  • Proficiency with desktop publishing tools such as Adobe FrameMaker or MadCap Flare
  • Experience with multimedia development tools and new media applications
  • Society for Technical Communication (STC) certification or membership
