About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Champion transformation of internal insurance software solutions and customer digital experience
  • Set strategy and direction for software development teams aligned with product, technology, and corporate goals
  • Standardize engineering, quality assurance, and delivery practices
  • Improve planning, prioritization, estimation, dependency management, and delivery predictability
  • Lead employee engagement, team effectiveness, collaboration, inclusion, and team cohesion
  • Own adoption of software development practices, engineering and quality assurance standards, and technical execution methods
  • Oversee software engineering managers and technical professionals, including performance management, workforce planning, succession planning, recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and talent development
  • Partner with Product, Platform & Infrastructure Technology, Architecture, Information Security, and business leaders
  • Align development capacity, technical roadmaps, product roadmaps, and delivery commitments
  • Oversee resource and capacity planning, contractor planning, and skill development strategies
  • Promote modern engineering practices, production reliability, operational readiness, secure coding, test automation, CI/CD, code quality, maintainability, and observability
  • Ensure compliance with architecture direction, information security expectations, regulatory requirements, IT standards, and SAIF policies
  • Drive agile and product-oriented ways of working and champion Agile transformation
  • Monitor team performance, delivery health, operational metrics, and engineering effectiveness
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts across teams
  • Support operational budgeting and vendor or contractor spend management
  • Evaluate, select, implement, and manage vendor solutions
  • Contribute to DEI initiatives and inclusive strategies
  • Provide on-call support as needed or through a rotating schedule
  • Perform other duties assigned by management

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least 10 years of experience in software development, much of it in a management role
  • Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in software engineering, application development, software delivery, or related technology leadership
  • Eight or more years of supervisory or people leadership experience
  • Experience leading multiple software development teams
  • Experience implementing engineering standards
  • Experience managing complex delivery portfolios
  • Experience partnering with product and technology leaders
  • Experience leading or enabling Agile transformation across teams or organizations
  • Business acumen
  • Strong technical skills
  • Ability to build relationships and manage a team of diverse talents and perspectives
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, software engineering, computer engineering, systems analysis, or a related field is preferred; equivalent relevant professional experience will be considered

  • Availability for on-call support outside business hours may be required
