About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Act as the authority on border integrity, international trade regulations, and global transit compliance across the league
  • Eliminate statutory risks and border friction while SailGP acts as its own Importer of Record via a proprietary charter vessel
  • Engineer the global regulatory roadmap with the Director of Vessel Operations
  • Own all customs entries, ATA Carnets, temporary import bonds, and biosecurity protocols
  • Co-lead advanced border agency engagements to protect the global event timeline
  • Lead advance discussions with customs authorities, border forces, and port officials in every host territory
  • Coordinate and co-lead cross-border port, customs, agricultural, and biosecurity briefings
  • Define and own regulatory, border, and customs SOP chapters and monitor on-site compliance
  • Manage compliance paperwork, visas, port-authority clearances, crew manifests, and restricted dockside access permits
  • Collaborate with SGPT engineering, design, and procurement leads on customs profiles for specialized equipment
  • Establish HS code classifications and valuation metrics for temporary imports
  • Manage documentation for specialized technical cargo, hazardous materials, and international safety certifications
  • Design and enforce cleaning and inspection protocols for high-risk agricultural and biosecurity regions
  • Manage pre-clearance for the vessel’s multi-million-pound inventory
  • Oversee ATA Carnet, TIB, and specialized maritime declaration strategies, underwriting, and discharge
  • Source, vet, contract, and manage customs brokers and port agents in every host country
  • Establish 24/7 SLAs for immediate problem resolution during live port clearance windows
  • Design, procure, and manage customs clearance for emergency and out-of-sequence freight
  • Optimize auxiliary freight solutions for cost and speed without compromising compliance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Advanced knowledge of customs, international trade regulations, global transit compliance, and border integrity
  • Experience managing customs entries, ATA Carnets, temporary import bonds, and maritime declarations
  • Experience engaging with customs authorities, border forces, port officials, agricultural/biosecurity agencies, and port agents
  • Experience developing and owning regulatory, border, and customs SOPs
  • Knowledge of maritime immigration, visas, crew manifests, port-authority clearances, and restricted dockside access permits
  • Ability to classify specialized race equipment, composite structures, and advanced electronics using HS codes and valuation metrics
  • Experience managing hazardous materials compliance, including lithium battery systems
  • Knowledge of international safety certifications for lifting equipment and heavy tackle
  • Experience designing and enforcing agricultural, environmental, biosecurity, container-cleaning, and asset-inspection protocols
  • Experience managing pre-clearance workflows for high-value inventory
  • Experience overseeing ATA Carnets, Temporary Importation Under Bond (TIB) structures, and specialized maritime declarations
  • Experience sourcing, vetting, contracting, and managing customs brokers and port agents
  • Ability to establish and manage 24/7 Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Experience procuring and managing customs clearance for emergency, out-of-sequence, air freight, specialized hot-shots, and custom courier shipments
  • Ability to optimize freight solutions for cost and speed while maintaining border compliance
  • Ability to work a minimum of three days per week in the London office
