About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own Android accessibility across the Slack app
  • Audit and fix Slack Kit Compose component accessibility issues
  • Build and maintain snapshot and automated accessibility testing
  • Diagnose and fix TalkBack/framework issues and develop shared utilities
  • Own and evolve Android accessibility test suites and infrastructure
  • Provide accessibility guidance to feature teams on labeling, focus order, state announcements, and audible feedback
  • Lead VPAT compliance efforts, resolve tickets, group recurring issues into epics, and document compliance posture
  • Plan and run accessibility testing across major features
  • Partner with QA vendors on regression testing
  • Represent Android in cross-platform mobile accessibility planning
  • Coordinate with iOS counterparts, design systems, and feature teams
  • Mentor Android engineers, run onboarding sessions, and share knowledge through documentation, newsletters, and external talks

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of Android engineering experience
  • Kotlin experience
  • Jetpack Compose experience
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Hands-on expertise with Android accessibility APIs and TalkBack behavior
  • Experience building or maintaining accessibility testing infrastructure
  • Familiarity with accessibility compliance frameworks such as WCAG and VPAT
  • Experience driving compliance work end-to-end
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Experience with design systems/component libraries and accessibility standards (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with third-party accessibility auditing tools or custom static-analysis/scanning tools (nice to have)
  • Public speaking or writing on accessibility topics (nice to have)
  • Experience using Slack and interest in improving it (nice to have)
